An SD card is a widely used digital storage medium. SD cards are available with a storage capacity of up to 4 GB. SD cards can be equipped with write-protection.

Mini-SD cards and micro-SD cards have been developed for smaller devices. Adapters are available so that these memory cards can be read in a SD card reader.
SDHC cards (HC = High Capacity) were recently developed. They have the same format as SD cards but a larger storage capacity. However, older SD card readers are unable to read SDHC cards.
