Update expands NAVIGON MobileNavigator for Android smartphones to include a flashlight function

A free update will soon equip the NAVIGON navigation apps for Android with the new Pedestrian Flashlight function, which means pedestrians will safely find their way even in the dark. This is because the new feature can turn the flash on their smartphones into a flashlight. In addition, this update also supports the Android 2.3 operating system.

NAVIGON_MobileNavigator_Android_lowresBarcelona, Mobile World Congress 2011 – NAVIGON is shedding light where there is darkness: In the first quarter Android smartphone owners will receive an update, which includes “NAVIGON Pedestrian Flashlight” torch function. Furthermore, the MobileNavigator will be available for new models in the full version and in the expandable NAVIGON select Telekom Edition. The navigation app in the software version 3.5.4 supports the Android 2.3 operating system (Gingerbread) and also runs on Samsung Galaxy S I9000 and Galaxy Tab. “With the update we are extending the availability of our successful navigation app to more smartphones and tablets,” says Gerhard Mayr, Vice President World-Wide Mobile Phone Business at NAVIGON. “At the same time, with the new Pedestrian Flashlight feature, pedestrian navigation is becoming even more versatile.” With the integrated LED light, users will find their way safely in the dark during navigation. As a result, the blend factor of the display is simultaneously reduced. With one click, this feature can be switched on and off.

NAVIGON select with Enhanced Pedestrian Navigation
The flashlight function completes pedestrian navigation on the Kasten_Android_MWC_ENGNAVIGON select Telekom Edition. With it, in “Enhanced Pedestrian Navigation” mode, users will safely find their destination even at night. There are two arrows: one indicates the direction of travel and the other points in the direction of the destination. Contract customers with Telekom get the basic version of the NAVIGON select Telekom Edition free of charge, including map material for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Users can upgrade the basic version as required. There are currently eight add-on packages available: the Bonus Package (access to telephone and Google contacts, “Reality Scanner”), the Sound and Fun Package (“Text-to-Speech”, “NAVIGON Funny Voices”, “Reality Scanner”), the Safety and Relax Package (“Lane Assistant Pro”, “Speed Assistant”, “Safety Camera”), the Premium Package (3D Navigation, “NAVIGON MyRoutes”, “Reality View Pro”, “Coordinate Entry”, access to telephone and Google contacts), the Traffic Live Package (“Traffic Live”) and the NAVIGON EU 20 and EU 40 map expansion packages. In addition, there are All-In-One packages for the regional version or EU 40.

Future version of the navigation app also for Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Thanks to the update owners of smartphones with the Android 2.3 operating system can also take advantage of tried-and-tested NAVIGON MobileNavigator features like Traffic Live. With the traffic information in real time, they will always find the fastest route at any given time. The Reality Scanner and the Pedestrian Flashlight round off the Enhanced Pedestrian Navigation. With the help of the smartphone camera and the GPS receiver, the feature locates POIs in the immediate vicinity. If interested, the user can view additional information and be guided directly to the selected destination.

Available at the Android Market and at Telekom shops soon
If users have already purchased the software of an earlier version, they can download the update of the full version from Android Market this quarter. Customers with a Deutsche Telekom mobile phone contract get the basic version of NAVIGON select free of charge from the same place. They can buy add-on packages via In App Purchase and will be invoiced on their mobile phone bill. Depending on features, upgrades cost between € 9.95 and € 29.95. The All-In-One package is available in Telekom shops as a NAVIGON voucher. For new customers, the full version is available in the European version (EU 40) for € 89.95 and in the regional version for € 59.95.
