New generation of NAVIGON apps – groundbreaking map concept and intuitive operation on the most important platforms

NAVIGON introduces the next generation of smartphone navigation apps for various platforms: map updates, similar to the “NAVIGON FreshMaps” concept and “NAVIGON MyMaps” are therewith available for the first time, allowing users to update their maps regularly according to their individual needs. By separating the application and the map, updates can be downloaded faster. A new operating concept makes navigation even easier and more intuitive.

Berlin, IFA 2011 – A premiere for the new generation of NAVIGON apps: with the enhancement of the MobileNavigator for various platforms, NAVIGON is once again leading the way in the market. Due to the variety of features, reliability and user-friendliness, the MobileNavigator has become one of the most popular smartphone apps – and one of the most versatile. The navigation solution is currently available in various versions and on the iPhone and Android platforms. The planned full version for Windows Phone 7 will also be unveiled at the IFA for the first time. “We asked ourselves how we could make our successful apps even better,” says Gerhard Mayr, Vice President of World-Wide Mobile Phone Business at NAVIGON. “In addition, thanks to user feedback over the past few years, the subjects of greater clarity on the display and in the menu, plus map updates became central aspects of the overhaul. Our aim is to continue the success story of our mobile navigation devices with this new generation of apps.”

Regular map updates and only the maps that are needed iPhone_MainMenu_en_lowres

Thanks to the enhanced app versions for iPhone and Android, as well as a new map model, smartphone owners can look forward to greater flexibility and regularly updatable map material. A central element of the new concept is the separation of map and app: with “NAVIGON MyMaps” smartphone users have the option to only load the maps onto their app that are needed for their next trip. All other maps can be individually loaded on the smartphone as required. That saves both time when updating the software and storage space on the device. Another innovation means that maps on applications can now also be regularly updated:  a map-update option will soon also be available for apps on iOS and Android operating systems. This allows users to download the latest map material for a minimum of two years for a one-off fee. That way the app can be customised according to individual needs. “With our new concept we are adapting our navigation apps precisely to the needs of the user,” says Gerhard Mayr. “They get an onboard navigation solution for their smartphone that is more up to date and more individual than any other to date.”

Operation of the navigation apps more intuitive than ever

Similar to the newly introduced NAVIGON Flow navigation software in the PND segment, NAVIGON has also enhanced its smartphone apps with regard to clarity and intuitive operation. The new user interface features a clear structure and allows users to switch easily between the individual menus. Furthermore, particularly in relation to the iPhone, menus and the map can be controlled by advanced multi-touch operation. “Innovative functions only lead to increased comfort when they can be operated intuitively,” says Gerhard Mayr. “With our new app generation we are setting standards in this respect.”

Full version for Windows Phone 7 available soon

In addition to the new generation of navigation apps for iPhone and Android, the full version will soon be available for Windows Phone 7. The onboard navigation solution offers useful functions like traffic information in real time, spoken turn-by-turn directions and the “Lane Assistant Pro”. The version is available from Windows Phone 7.5 onwards and offers numerous functions such as Reality Scanner. The feature displays special destinations that are located in the vicinity of the current position in the live image of the smartphone camera.

The new versions of the apps will be released in the weeks following the IFA 2011.
