Dalí, Delay and Djokovic – Basel is the NAVIGON City Highlight for November
With numerous attractions this November, Basel is sure to attract plenty of visitors. Besides a music festival and works of art by world-renowned surrealists, they can also see stars of the tennis scene in action live. Those who find the winter temperatures too cold can warm themselves up with a city run around Basel or enjoy a glass of mulled wine at the Christmas market.
Hamburg, November 2011 – Basel is not only the third-largest city in Switzerland, but is also considered its cultural centre: the city has more than 40 museums on offer. However, beyond art there is quite a bit to discover in the Swiss city situated in the tri-border region – the imposing city gates, the cathedral that towers over the city from the top of a hill, or the Les Trois Rois Hotel (The Three Kings Hotel), in which the likes of Picasso and Casanova have stayed. The NAVIGON City Highlights in November showcase the best places in the city whose divided old quarter is connected by one of the oldest Rhine crossings.
Parisian art in Basel
Until 29 January 2012, works by renowned surrealists can be viewed in the Fondation Beyeler. The “Surrealism in Paris” exhibition is showing more than 200 masterpieces by artists such as Salvador Dalí, René Magritte and Joan Miró – among them paintings, sculptures and photographs, plus films and manuscripts. As an additional highlight, visitors can also view the private collections of Peggy Guggenheim and Simone Collinet, André Breton’s first wife. Further information on prices and opening times can be found at www.fondationbeyeler.ch.
